The tunnels can be found along Footpath NT30.
DIRECTIONS
From The Buddle Inn, turn left and walk up the road as far as the T junction with the main A3055. Almost opposite is a finger signpost NT30 Niton, which is a narrow footpath running parallel with the road back to Niton. The path has a high stone wall on the left hand side and large vegetation on the right. After a few minutes, you come to the two small tunnels.
HISTORY
A couple of stories point to the history of the tunnels. One says the landowner of a large house, long since destroyed, built the tunnels to redirect a public footpath so people did not walk through his garden. Another says that the tunnels were built for "staff" of the same said house, which was used as the Undercliff Hotel, so that they could walk to and from work without being seen. So they could be described more as bridges for the gardens above, rather than tunnels.
