This walk from Bonchurch to Ventnor can easily be achieved in an electric wheelchair, mobility scooter, or with someone pushing your wheelchair as it's a flat concrete revetment for the entire length. It's a great walk for feeling the sea breeze on your face, and enjoying an uninterrupted view of the sea. The sight and sound of the waves crashing along the sea wall is a fabulous experience.
It can be breezy along this route, as it catches the southerly and easterly winds, so bring a blanket just in case. On a hot summer's day there is no shade, so wear suitable protection from the sun. It is sheltered from northerly winds, so it's a lovely spot to visit in winter.
Start the walk at the Bonchurch end, where you can park in the Shore Road carpark. Shore Road is a little steep, so if you don't fancy that, it is possible to take the car to the bottom of Shore Road, drop-off and then park it in the carpark. There is no parking down by the shore so the carpark is the only place to park.
First head east for a few yards where you will find Monks Bay. The concrete revetment has a ramp down onto the shingle beach but if that's too tricky, the view is just as gorgeous from the revetment. There are toilets here, although they are not accessible.
Turn back the way you came and follow the revetment west towards Ventnor. It's just over a mile.
Along the route you will pass Horseshoe Bay and then Wheelers Bay, where there is a pitstop - the Seapot Cafe.
After just over a mile you'll find yourself on Ventnor's Esplanade where you can find a choice of places to stop for a drink or bite to eat. There are public toilets at the eastern end of the Esplanade, near Besty and Spinky's Cafe.
You can't easily get onto the beach with a wheelchair, but there is a ramp down which means you can get pretty close.
