My usual work is making assemblages out of found objects, deconstructed rope from the beach and other flotsam and jetsam. I use knitting, felting and mixed media techniques to enhance these. I see my work as a modern twist on a collection of objects in the display style of natural history. I was influenced by the collections of the Royal children displayed at the Swiss Cottage museum at Osborne House.
My pieces also tell the story of a walk on the beach and through them I am trying to raise awareness of plastic pollution. I started to deconsruct rope from the beach and the the crazy idea of knitting with it. My sculpture of Irma is my most recent project doing this. My initials are WSW so weather has become an important theme in my work recently.
After taking part in the Porfolio Preparation Course at Quay Arts in 2018, I have developed as an artist and I like to experiment with new techniques like lino and mono printing. My work is very varied now and often goes on different tangents depending on what spikes my imagination. I did a series of satirical portraits of Boris Johnson using these techniques.
