Watershoot Bay is accessed via a steep, winding path with dramatic cliff views. It is not easy to reach, but it's very picturesque. When you reach the shore, you will find a shingle beach with numerous rocks. As is with much of the Island's southern coastline, Watershoot Bay has a wonderful feeling of isolation.
This area of the coastline is known for being a great spot for fossil hunting due to the abundance of fossils found in the surrounding cliffs.
Access is a bit of a hike and a scramble, and will take you about 20 minutes to get down to. The route is muddy, even in the summer, so you are likely to come home muddy. It is also easy to take the wrong path.
ONLY VISIT THIS BEACH IF YOU ARE FIT, CAREFUL AND ARE WEARING SENSIBLE FOOTWEAR.
Getting to Old Blackgang Road Car park can be an adventure in itself as the access road is very narrow, and just wide enough for a car. Once parked, head out via the left hand gate.
Your next adventure will be to find the correct route down as there are several footpath junctions. Once onto the footpath keep on the left rather than veering left, and look for a stream. Some paths are narrow and precarious with significant drops. There isn't an official set of steps. You may even find some rope that a previous visitor has left.
Be prepared to get it wrong. If there is someone else around, it's worth asking if they know the correct route.
