Town Council Powers and Duties
Ventnor Town Council is NOT responsible for education, transport, planning, roads & potholes, parking enforcement, education and children's services, flooding, street lighting, social care, libraries, fire and public safety, waste management, council tax, fly tipping, street cleaning, abandoned vehicles, noise and light pollution, house building, housing benefits, leisure facilities, licensing, carparks, nor trading standards. Those services are the responsibility of the Isle of Wight Council.
Ventnor Town Council can help on a number of local issues, like providing:
- allotments
- public clocks
- bus shelters
- community centres
- play areas and play equipment
- grants to help local organisations
- consultation on neighbourhood planning
- some of the town's carparks
- playing a part in local planning issues
The town council also has the power to issue fixed penalty fines for things like:
- litter
- graffiti
- fly posting
- dog offences
Ventnor Wards
Ventnor is divided into two Wards for Isle of Wight Council elections, each with one councillor to represent that area:
- Ventnor & St Lawrence
- Wroxall, Lowtherville & Bonchurch
The town is divided into four Wards for elections to Ventnor Town Council:
- Bonchurch & Ventnor East
- Lowtherville
- St Lawrence
- Ventnor West
Councillors
A councillor is a volunteer role - they are not paid a salary but are given an allowance to support activities and initiatives in the community. The are 11 councillors on Ventnor Town Council, as of November 2024. Each covers different areas that come under the control of the council. There are 6 for Ventnor West, 2 for Lowtherville, 1 for St Lawrence, and 2 for Bonchurch/Ventnor East.

Town Council Meetings
Council Meetings are held regularly at the council office in Salisbury Gardens, Dudley Road. Meetings can be on various topics that affect Ventnor. Members of the public and press are welcome to attend. Check our Facebook page and our website for the next date.
