Rings is a game that was frequently played in pubs, with almost every establishment having its own ringboard on the wall. In the same way that you would find a darts board and a pool table now.
But Rings is still very much alive in a few parts of England, including a well supported Ventnor League today.
The aim of the game is to score the highest number you can by throwing three small rubber rings onto the hooks on the board - scoring in a similar manner to a darts game. The Ventnor League's ringboard has 15 hooks - in Ireland and Essex they have 13 hooks. You also need to finish on an exact score, and it’s a lot harder than it looks!
Teams from pubs in and around Ventnor take part regularly.
