The community orchard in Steephill Down Road in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight was planted a few years ago, but had become overgrown. The area was cleared and further fruit trees were planted in 2025, with input from the local community.
So far, we have chosen some apple trees, a crab apple and a Victoria Plum to plant based on the requests from local residents and school children.
The tree planting event was held on 1st February 2025. More trees will be planted in the near future, and we would like your ideas for what to choose.
Why not sponsor a tree?
If you would like to sponsor a tree, please get in touch please email catherine@ventortowncouncil.org.uk
We would also appreciate your input for other ideas to enhance the site such as seating areas, bird and squirrel feeders, art and sculptures etc.
Free for all
Eventually the orchard will provide even more free-fresh fruit for all, and a habitat for nature.
The community orchard project is a new initiative for Ventnor organised by Ventnor Town Council with the help of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. This orchard is part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and community wellbeing within the Isle of Wight. By creating spaces like these, Ventnor continues to support initiatives that bring people together and improve the local environment.
