Running since 1980, the Boxing Day Swim is one of Ventnor's must-do events.
Come along dressed in whatever tickles your fancy. People start to gather on Ventnor Beach about half an hour before the whistle. The signal is given, and everyone rushes into the sea. There's a lot of screaming, as you can imagine.
Is the Sea Cold?
It's not as cold as you might think. The sea temperature is about 10 degrees C in December, and that's often the air temperature too. Get used to the temperature without your layers on before you go in, and the sea won't seem so cold. Plus, the fun of charging in with other people makes your adrenaline take over.
Charity Support
Donate some coins into the collection buckets. Money raised goes to P.A.T.C.H. - People's Approach to Cancer Help. This is a Ventnor based charity which helps alleviate the financial strain caused by transport costs to and from cancer treatments. Click HERE for more information.
Donations also go to Ventor Carnival Association who put on Ventnor Carnival and other events.
Parking
As you can imagine, it's very popular. You can park at La Falaise or Eastern Esplanade. Or in town and walk down to the shore. The cafes open early, so park well in advance and enjoy a takeaway hot drink while you wait.
