Lucia Para Artist

I'm an Italian artist and illustrator, trained as a landscape painter in Florence, now living on the Isle of Wight, a Unesco Biosphere rich in nature and biodiversity.

My work is inspired by nature, colour and children. It is created with traditional media and edited digitally.

My past as a painter shows through the love for layering media and painterly textures.

The images I create have the intention to evoke feelings of inner places where the viewer can feel safe, loved and curious to explore the natural world with its wonders and cycles.

When you don’t find me in the studio or making art with children, I might be drawing outside, foraging, reading (I am a bookworm!) or rowing on the river nearby!

MONTHLY PAINTING CLASSES AT VENTNOR BOTANIC GARDENS
Guided outdoor sketching classes. Create colourful memories while enjoying nature in the wonderful setting of Ventnor Botanic Garden. Every first Sunday of the month 10am - 12pm.

ADULT WORKSHOPS: ART IN NATURE CLASSES
Wonder why an image works better than another? In the ART in NATURE classes all your doubts will disappear as we will train our eyes to look at nature and our sketches in a new way!

After sketching in nature regularly for years, I now offer outdoors sketching sessions for adults and young people on the Isle of Wight and if you are interested, I can also travel to you.

These are guided lessons and small groups, to tailor teaching to everyone's needs and level and to spark inspiration to go and sketch outdoors.

I always take my sketchbooks along to show people - not only the good drawings, but the bad ones too. Because it's from those that we learn the most!

KIDS ART CLASSES
As well as an artist, I am a children educator with a Level 6 EYTS (0-5 years old). My pedagogy has its roots in Reggio Emilia inspired approach (I grew up in that area of Italy) and is focused on empowering children's confidence and emotional wellbeing, valuing the power of imagination which transforms facts into possibilities. I believe  in a supportive learning environment centred on mindful practice and respect for nature, always with a creative twist.

I am constantly developing new workshops for small groups and have been working online (see my videos ) and for many events and organisations (on the Isle of Wight: IOW Story Festival, Rhythm Tree, Hullabaloo, Quay Arts centre, local schools and home education groups).

Most of the activities are suitable for all children with fine motor skills (4/5 to 8/10) and might be enjoyed according to their interests.

The themes of the workshops vary from art, cooking and nature related projects.

I also have a Youtube channel were I share art activities for children and all ages for free. Check it out!
