Rescue & welfare for donkeys
The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary began in 1987. It is a registered charity focussed on animal welfare, with a mission to provide refuge, exceptional care, and new beginnings for donkeys and other equines in need.
Visiting us
Our free to visit sanctuary isn't just home to over 100 much loved donkeys, ponies and mules, it’s also a working farm nestled in 55 acres of picturesque south wight countryside.
We're open 7 days a week, parking is free and we’re easy to get to on the bus. We welcome well-behaved dogs on leads on site.
Lots to do
We offer our signature Donkey Experience all year round (booking essential) and during the school holidays we offer other activities including donkey grooming, pamper a donkey or Shetland pony and short guided tours.
We host special events, including Music in the Courtyard over the summer and welcome large groups.
Our café
Our award-winning café has delicious food on offer for all the family including afternoon tea (please book in advance) and snacks for your four-legged friend. Located in a delightful converted barn, the café terrace has lovely views over the local countryside. You can also pick up food in the café to enjoy in our Meadow area.
Your support
Have you thought about adopting with us? We have over 60 donkeys available for adoption; it’s a lovely way to welcome a new family member and support our charity. We rely on donations, grants, gifts in a will and fundraising to provide our animals with the highest, loving care they rightly deserve.
