The Matthews family has been an integral part of the Isle of Wight timber industry for well over 200 years. Clifford J Matthews Ltd proudly continues this long tradition serving both the trade and public from its sawmill and workshops in Whitwell.
We are very proud of the work we undertake, whether it is supplying sawn timber for construction or renovation projects or producing traditional furniture or fixtures. Our highly skilled team produces a very diverse body of work, from large structures to intricate joinery. If you have ever been for a walk along our beautiful coastline or through the Island’s chocolate box villages, the chances are you have seen some of our past projects.
If you are starting a project and would like some advice about how best to approach it our team are more than happy to offer advice. All of our Sawyers are also qualified Joiners and their knowledge of timber is perhaps our greatest asset.
